Energy-efficiency measures have been gaining traction among home buyers, especially as energy demand has been rising.
But what about those who live outside of the U.S.?
What can they do to improve their energy efficiency?
Here are some tips on how to improve your energy-efficient home.
What to buyWhen you buy a new home, the first thing you should look for is what you need to save in energy-related expenses, such as electricity and water.
You should also look for energy-saving features such as smart meters, energy-management systems and air conditioning.
These are the things you should consider before you buy, according to the U,S.
Department of Energy.
The energy-savings of a home is usually more important than the energy-usage of your home, according the Energy Information Administration.
But a lot of the things that you can do to save money on energy-intensive expenses are actually pretty simple, according Kevin Ostermann, an energy expert and chief economist for the energy services firm TrustedEnerGuide.

“It’s not a simple thing to do.
You need to understand what your system is doing,” he said.
The first thing to look forWhen buying a new house, you should definitely consider what you might be able to save on your energy bill, said Ostermans, a spokesman for Trusted EnerGuide, which provides energy-inspection and efficiency services.
For example, you might think that you would need to spend more on a new refrigerator or TV that will require more energy to run.
You might also want to save some of the energy used to heat a room, such an appliance.
“There are a lot more things you can control that are related to energy,” Ostermen said.
“If you can save some money on these items, you will be more able to spend that money on other things.”
Some appliances will use more energy in your home if you use them at a low wattage, which is a watt-hour, according Topper Solutions.
“These appliances use less energy because they use less electricity to do what they do,” said company spokesman Dave Sperling.
If you have an electric car, you’ll be able use more electricity if you’re at a lower wattage than a gas-powered vehicle.
You may also be able get away with buying appliances that aren’t efficient because they have a low-power mode, according Sperlin.
“That’s the most common type of energy-saver appliance you can buy,” he added.
What’s not to like about buying a refrigerator that uses less energy?
Sperling said that when buying a fridge, you needn’t worry too much about the energy that it uses.
“We recommend a refrigeration unit that’s as efficient as possible,” he explained.
That means that the refrigerator should have a power factor of 10, and a speed of 60 watts per minute, or a capacity of 2,500 kilowatt hours.
You should also make sure that you’re purchasing an appliance that has enough energy efficiency.
You don’t want to go overboard on the energy efficiency, according Rob Krasner, chief technology officer of EnergyStar.
“The more energy you save, the more efficient your appliance will be,” he told ABC News.
A big part of energy efficiency is controlling what you use the most, and the best appliances will help you with that, Krasen said.
The appliance you buy may have energy-wasting features that you need more control over, such a smart thermostat or air conditioner.
How to save your moneyWhat you should payFor the most part, you shouldn’t need to pay much more for energy efficient appliances, said Krasener.
“I think a lot people are thinking of this as a $500 item,” he noted.
“You can get a good deal on the appliance and it will save you about $100 a year.”
You should consider buying a small refrigerator that has a wattage range of 3 to 7,000 watts, and you should also consider a larger refrigerator with a watt range of about 10,000 to 25,000.
“This will save a little bit more,” Kraser said.
For example, if you have a 2,000-watt refrigerator that is rated for 30 degrees, you can probably get a smaller refrigerator that can get up to 35 degrees.
How much to spendThe amount you should spend on energy efficiency can vary depending on the type of appliance you’re buying.
The Energy Star system is designed to help you decide whether you should buy a $2,500 or $5,000 refrigerator, Krosner said.
If the appliance you have is rated to use 2,700 kilowatts, the Energy Star model can save you $50 per year
