What is a ‘free’ solar energy system?
Israel’s Ministry of Energy said it would offer free solar power for residents who have solar panels on their roofs.
The ministry said Wednesday that it was a pilot project that would be expanded to more homes in the future.
The move is a big step in Israel’s effort to reduce CO2 emissions and create jobs.
The ministry’s announcement came on the heels of a plan by the government to set up a national solar power program.
In addition to the free solar panels, the government will also give free electricity to homeowners with solar panels.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the solar power plan is part of a government initiative to create jobs and boost economic activity.
“We want to bring electricity and solar energy to everyone in Israel and we want to help those who don’t have electricity,” said Minister of Energy Uri Levy, in a statement.
“This pilot project will make it possible for residents of Jerusalem to buy solar energy at no cost and to enjoy it without the cost of the electricity grid.”
Israel currently has the most solar energy on the planet, with more than 1.5 million solar panels installed, according to a report by the World Bank.
Israel’s solar power capacity is estimated to reach 9.8 gigawatts, which means that it could power up to 200 million homes.
